UNN ALUMNI to celebrate Founders’ day Dec. 9, 2020

The University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni, Awka branch has slated December 9, 2020, to mark its founder’s day in commemoration of the great leaders of the university.

The president, Dr Ngozi Ulogu disclosed this on friday, Nov 20, 2020 when members of the association paid a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, who also happened to be an alumni member.

Speaking during the welcome address, the president of the association, Awka branch, Dr Ngozi Ulogu said the visit was for the association to share in Prof. Esimone’s successes since he became the Vice Chancellor. She also thanked him for his unflinching support towards the progress of the alumni.

“We are glad on your appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Unizik and the arrival of new born babies in your home. Having acknowledged our congratulatory letter, it speaks volumes of your humility”

“We equally want to use this medium to seek for your collaboration and support especially during the founder’s day celebration coming up on the 9th of December, 2020”.

Also speaking, an Anambra State permanent secretary and past president of the association, Comrade Leo Imoka, stated that the founder’s day lecture was an annual event to honor the founding fathers of the great University of Nigeria Nsukka.

He also attributed the high turnout of members to the Vice Chancellor’s goodwill and charisma.

On her part, Mrs Nkiru Meludu, treasurer of the association, stated that Prof Charles Esimone’s outstanding records spoke good of his personality. She also appreciated the Vice Chancellor for his time consciousness in discharging his duties as a true disciplined administrator.

Responding, Prof Charles Esimone stated that he was proud to always identify with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In his words, “the most important element offered in terms of human capacity is the dignity of man being restored.”

He further assured that he would continue to show commitment and love to the alumni, in the best possible way for the growth of the association.

The University Don, however, bemoaned all forms of illegal acts being perpetrated by some miscreant who go about using the name of the Vice Chancellor to extort money from innocent citizens.

Meanwhile, the founder’s day lecture themed “Covid-19 challenges: youth Restiveness and way forward” is set to hold at the Best Western Hotels, Awka.
