This morning, Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Hon. Vincent Ogochukwu Okpala MD, flagged off the training of select individuals on Basic Live Support (BLS) at Wintess Hotels, Awka.
Kindly note that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) were recently installed at several strategic locations in our beloved state. Such locations include Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Government House, Governor’s Lodge, State House of Assembly, Judiciary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), some churches and hospitals, among many others.
This three day training is sponsored by Anambra State Government and facilitated Code.Red Emergency Medical Services.
The participants were selected from the above named locations and will be acquiring crucial life-saving resuscitation skills. These crucial skills when applied effectively will immensely increase survival rates from emergency cases such as cardiac arrest.
The Honorable Commissioner being an emergency physician, trained in the United States of America, understands the importance of ensuring public access to AEDs and adequate knowledge of their effective utilization.
This laudable initiative is another first in Nigeria and has once again shown the proactive and people-centered leadership style of Governor Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano.
It is believed that this initiative will save a lot of lives.
